ADOPTER STORIES
Uptown Uli and Courtney

By Courtney Hall, age 13

Uli originally came from a farm in Washington County. When Days End Horse Farm Rescue (DEFHR) rescued her, she’d been neglected and starved and she was full of worms. The people at Days End nurtured her back to health and gave her another chance at life. For over a year, she stayed at DEFHR awaiting her forever family which turned out to be my family.

After we brought her home and she was happily settled, we began training her under saddle. She was quick to learn and gain confidence. Soon she was teaching me to ride fearlessly, knowing that she’ll take care of me.

In less than a year, I was riding Uli on trails throughout the Mid-Atlantic. Our favorite was beach rides. Uli loves water and splashing in the waves. When she became very well conditioned, we started competing in limited distance endurance and competitive trail (25-30 mile rides). We usually placed first and sometimes second among juniors. In 2010 we ranked 8th in junior limited distance within ECTRA (Eastern Competitive Trail Ride Association), which sanctions trail competitions in the eastern part of the United States.

These days, Uli enjoys junior fox chasing, pony clubbing, show jumping and mounted games. We try to work in some dressage, but I’m not so sure she’s very thrilled about that. Also, Uli leads our small herd of two Arabian geldings and our newest addition, a POA rescue pony.

Uli has tremendous heart and willingness to please. She is a little mare that gives her all . . . always. Uli is my best friend.
