HALO

15 years

14.3 hands

Appaloosa

Mare

Gray

Halo was donated to us in 2005 as a Program Horse. She is a chubby little mare with lots of personality and spunk. Halo is used primarily for ground and under saddle evaluations and work in our Internship Program. Her steady, yet sometimes testy, personality both in-hand and in the saddle is a great evaluator for where an intern is at in their skill and experience level and she is a valuable addition to our Program Horse team as an educational tool.

Isaac is a lovable teddy bear of a horse who came to DEFHR in March 2007 as a neglect case from Prince George's County. When he came to us, he was unhandled and extremely fearful of humans. Through many hours of patience and training, Isaac turned into an absolute sweetheart. His laid back personality on the ground and under saddle make him a favorite among many of our volunteers and foster care parents. He goes w/t/c and over fences, but is known for having rusty brakes, so he's best for an advanced beginner or above rider. His rotund build makes him ideal for pony rides and the occasional chuckle. Shows, parades, fairs, and expo's...this boy does it all! We love Isaac and it's clear that he loves his job as a Program Horse!

Jinx came to us in October 2009 along with 18 other horses from Baltimore City. He was an "Arabber" horse, used to pull fruit and vegetable carts through the city. When Jinx arrived to us, we knew that he was going to stay with us for a long time. His gentle and kind personality was what jumped out at us first, and after learning of him being ridden by children at his previous home, we knew he would be one of our new Program Horses. Jinx has now been used in pony rides, taken on trail rides, parades, and other off-site events. Though he can get a little excited (yet controllable) off-site, he is as lazy as can be at home. Those riding him can sometimes have a hard time getting him to go! Jinx does have a bit of a greedy side to him, so all treats have to be given to him by bucket, otherwise his nose will not leave your space as he searches for the goodies you brought him!

OZZY

Outback Osbourne

Chestnut

Ozzy arrived to us in May 2010 as a starvation and neglect case from Garrett County, along with 25 other horses and ponies. He was very emaciated and had overgrown feet when he came to us, but made a speedy and full recovery. Ozzy now enjoys being one of our Program Horses. He is great for pony rides and can be seen during our on-site events, as well as off-site shows, fairs, and parades. Ozzy is a furry, lovable older boy who is enjoying being pampered by many of his DEFHR fans in his later years.

Ziggy came to us in October 2009 from Baltimore City as a neglect case, along with 18 other horses. Ziggy was an "Arabber" horse, used to pull fruit and vegetable carts around the city streets. This giant's gentle nature was apparent from the second he stepped foot on our farm and we knew that, if given the opportunity, this boy would be sticking with us for a long time. Ziggy is a sweetheart who loves attention and pampering. He is one of our star pony ride attractions during our open houses, but can also be seen off site at fairs, parades and other events. This old man is loved by many, and we intend on keeping him for as long as he continues to enjoy his job as beloved Program Horse.
